Welcoming Gernot Huber
We are thrilled to welcome Gernot Huber back to our community for a weekend of practice, learning, and connection as we explore two specific six-pose yoga sequences that have been shown in peer-reviewed studies to significantly increase bone mineral density in people with osteoporosis. The bone density gains are comparable to those associated with leading osteoporosis medications, without the problematic side effects.
Gernot Huber is a certified teacher of this method, which was developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, a medical doctor and yoga teacher. Gernot also works with Dr. Fishman in his Manhattan practice as a yoga therapist and teaches this method to osteoporosis patients there.
In addition to learning Dr. Fishman’s osteoporosis sequences, you will learn how to improve posture, balance, coordination, and movement patterns to help reduce the risk of falls and vertebral fractures. You will also learn how and why yoga for osteoporosis differs from a regular yoga practice and how to apply safer biomechanics to daily activities.
No prior yoga experience is necessary, though some experience may be helpful.
In order to address osteoporosis most effectively, one should attend both sessions. Attendance at Session 1 required for participation in session 2. Participants should be willing to practice one or two short yoga sequences regularly to support bone mineral density.
NOTE: Bring your most recent DEXA scores if you would like Gernot to help fine-tune the practice to your specific needs.
This workshop will take place in-person in the Arlington Studio.
