new to us?

Sun & Moon is a locally owned, community-supported school of yoga in Northern Virginia since 1994, connecting minds to bodies, yoga to wellness, and people to each other. We teach students movement, mindfulness, and therapeutic techniques in a breath-based and alignment-informed style, with lots of room to explore, play, inquire, and heal.

What does yoga look like at Sun & Moon?

  • It’s quiet and deliberate: We offer the antidote to a fast and noisy world. Students at Sun & Moon are invited to slow down, breathe deeply, and treasure the moment.

  • It’s accessible: Every body is a unique and beautiful imprint on this earth. Regardless of a student’s size, flexibility, or capability, our teachers are trained in shaping the practice to the person rather than fitting the person into a preconceived shape.

  • It’s therapeutic: Our classes help rebalance and restructure the mind and body, and they play a significant role in the healing journey for many people.

  • It’s eclectic: We offer a variety of classes from a well-rounded and seasoned faculty. Each class, regardless of style, varies depending on the teacher – let us help you find your best fit, whether you want upbeat movement, meditative stillness, or a mix of it all.

  • It’s temperate: Most of our classes stay at moderate temperatures in the 70s, as the body fares well when allowed its own natural course of warming up and cooling down, while our Ashtanga-style classes are heated into the 80s to help the body adapt to a more vigorous approach.

  • It’s equitable: Price should never be a barrier to entry. We offer several options to make yoga affordable, including our Work Exchange program, a Healthy Living Pass for those receiving services from local behavioral health and human service organizations, and individual arrangements when appropriate. Email us for more info.

  • It’s more than the mat: Yoga is the practice of liberation from suffering and recognition of our interconnectedness. We can work to heal both ourselves and each other through skillful action and social responsibility. Learn more here.

  • It’s borrowed: With gratitude to the many generations of teachers who have shared their wisdom, we acknowledge the spiritual and cultural roots of this practice that originated in South Asia.
