The shape of shelter
In the height of summer, we hear birds in the trees singing their bright, warm songs, and we watch them take flight in the humid air. But in the deep of winter, sometimes the only sign of our feathered friends is the nest they left behind, revealed when the shelter of leaves fell away, well before the first snowfall conceals the nest once again. These carefully constructed bird cradles are gorgeous in their paradoxical glory: so delicately arranged, yet so sturdy, adamantly holding their place on winter branches.
The human body can feel similarly complex. Some days we feel strong and centered, ready to take charge and fly forth; other days we tend to our fragile parts, hunkering down to nurse a cold, a sorrow, or an outrage.
Through mindful movement, breath, and rest on the yoga mat, we can cultivate discernment to meet each day as it is, sometimes rising into strength, sometimes settling into care. Join us in our steady, supportive space to practice this skill of listening, to build resilience without forcing, and to tend the body as it moves through the seasons, exploring what true shelter can feel like.
