My first class at Sun & Moon was Prenatal Yoga with Maureen in 2007 when I was new to Arlington and pregnant with my first daughter. This was my first taste of the community and support found here. I fully credit this class with giving me the confidence and mental skills that I needed to have my second baby without meds (due to complications with the first).
As my kids grew, I did baby/toddler/family/school-aged yoga with my daughter, and we bonded as we practiced. Later, I learned Ashtanga Yoga with John and loved how it had a little of everything (strength, challenge, balance, flexibility, breathing, chanting, mindfulness). It was amazing to see how my body could move and improve, and I always looked forward to the community.
Finally, after the pandemic, I confronted some tough things in my life and needed a gentle, kind, simple approach. That was hard for me to accept, but once again I found acceptance and care in Annie and Anne's classes. I've now taken that acceptance and care into the Mysore room with Jarrick and Jeselene, and once again, Ashtanga practice feels nourishing and energizing.
After attending the 30th anniversary celebration last fall, and reflecting on all the varied classes I took here, I really wanted to express my gratitude to the Sun & Moon community for always being there for me in the way that I needed in the moment, even if I didn't know exactly what that was at the time.
Thank you, Sun & Moon.
