Yoga, Ayurveda & Creative Practice for the Season of Change: Aligning Body, Mind & Imagination with the Essence of Spring with melina Meza
Spring in Ayurveda is governed by Kapha transforming into Pitta—a time of release, reawakening, and reorganization. As nature shifts, so do we. This immersive weekend invites you to explore spring through the body, breath, creativity, and reflection, offering practical tools to meet change with clarity, resilience, and care. This weekend workshop alternates between Arlington and Fairfax Studios, and will be livestreamed on Zoom, with the recording available for two weeks afterward.
Friday April 17, Fairfax Studio
6:30p - 8:30p
Softening Kapha, Awakening Prana: Yin Yoga, Poetry & the Ayurvedic Art of Beginning Again
Ayurvedic focus: Kapha season, nervous system regulation, prana, ojas, letting go.
We begin the weekend by slowing down. In Ayurveda, early spring is a Kapha-dominant time—cool, heavy, and moist. While spring is often associated with movement and growth, Ayurveda reminds us that true renewal begins with softening, warming, and releasing what has accumulated.
Long-held, nourishing poses support the nervous system and tissues, while poetry and simple pranayama invite reflection and inner listening. Rather than pushing toward change, we allow space for emergence—trusting the body’s natural intelligence to set the pace.
This is a practice of rest as preparation, helping you arrive grounded, open, and ready for the weekend ahead.
Saturday April 18, Arlington Studio
12:30p - 2:30p
Sthira & Sukha in Spring
Ayurvedic Support Through Creative Use of Props
Ayurvedic focus: Balancing Kapha and Vata, intelligent support, sustainable effort
In Ayurveda and yoga alike, balance arises from the relationship between sthira (steadiness) and sukha (ease). Spring can bring enthusiasm and expansion, but without adequate support it can also lead to strain, joint irritation, or fatigue. This creative, exploratory session reimagines yoga props as intelligent allies in cultivating resilience, adaptability, and ease. We’ll work with blocks, straps, blankets, and reistance bands, in fresh ways to support joints, regulate effort, and create sustainable strength.
Saturday April 18, Arlington Studio
3:00p - 5:00p
Thriving Mind, Wise Aging: Ayurveda, Yoga & Creative Reflection for a Resilient Inner Life
Ayurvedic focus: Sattva, mental digestion, ojas, healthy aging (rasayana)
Aging well, in Ayurveda, is not only about preserving physical strength—it is about cultivating sattva, the quality of clarity, curiosity, and meaning that sustains us through change.
This session is devoted to the inner landscape of aging: how we meet transitions, identity shifts, uncertainty, and new chapters with creativity rather than fear. Through gentle yet intentional yoga sequences, reflective inquiry, and simple creative practices, we’ll explore how to strengthen mental resilience and nourish ojas—the essence that supports vitality, immunity, and emotional steadiness.
Sunday April 19, Fairfax Studio
1:00p - 3:00p
From Kapha to Pitta: Finding Lift - Creative Yoga for Spring Energy & Buoyancy
Ayurvedic focus: Transition from Kapha to Pitta, prana flow, lightness and lift
We close the weekend by exploring one of spring’s most essential qualities: buoyancy.
As Kapha gives way to Pitta later in spring, the body naturally seeks more lift, warmth, and expression. In this energizing and playful class, we’ll explore where we need containment and where we’re ready to rise—physically, energetically, and emotionally.
Through creative sequencing, standing poses, balance work, and breath-led transitions, we’ll cultivate lightness without force and strength without rigidity. Thoughtful use of props will support both grounding and expansion, helping prana move freely while maintaining steadiness.
This practice is designed to leave you feeling uplifted, confident, and aligned with spring’s upward momentum.
