Sun & Moon Yoga Studio Policies and Fees

We invite you to be our guest for your first visit to our studio, so you can see if it's the right place for you!

No need to reserve a spot in advance. Simply come in a few minutes early, tell our front-desk volunteer it's your first time at Sun & Moon, and fill out an information form.

Or, save a few minutes in advance and download the form here, fill it out, and bring it with you when you come.

Sun & Moon is a classic school of hatha yoga promoting health, wellness, and community. We arrange our schedule around four quarters per year, with weekly classes structured to provide a well-rounded curriculum over an entire quarter. Depending on the season, the length of the quarter varies. We welcome beginners and new students at any time, and your first class is free. Once you decide to sign up for a class, you can register online, by phone, in person, or by mailing us this form

We teach most of our classes in the hatha yoga style at Levels 1, 2, or 3, with careful alignment instruction and a focus on breath awareness. Our teaching staff is a well-rounded collection of practitioners with an eclectic blend of styles; when a class is purely devoted to one particular style, it will carry its name (e.g. vinyasa, or Integral); otherwise, it simply depends on the teachers, their training, and what they choose to share that particular day. We keep our rooms at moderate temperatures in the mid-70s and do not offer any "hot yoga." We accept credit cards, checks or cash. If you’re redeeming a non-web-produced gift certificate, please do so by phone or in person.

We Now Offer Three Ways to Yoga at Sun & Moon

As always, since we opened our doors in 1994, we remain a school of yoga, with weekly classes structured to provide a well-rounded yoga curriculum, and our teachers present a continuity of instruction from beginning to end of four quarters per year. Recognizing the changing needs of the yoga community, we now offer additional options to accommodate those with unpredictable schedules, and/or who want as much yoga as they can inhale.

Ideal for the student who thrives on a weekly commitment to their teacher and fellow students, and who benefits from the continuity of instruction and experience from beginning to end of each quarter. Make up missed classes anytime during the quarter, before or after your absence. Register for the entire quarter or its remainder. For registrations after the quarter has begun, subtract $16 for each class you missed.

  • $16/class

  • Option to add extra drop-ins @$18/class

  • Seniors age 60 and above take $10 off total

  • Register one person for two weekly classes and take $50 the total; register one person for three weekly classes and take $108 off the total

  • Child siblings registering for the same class (kids, tweens or teens) take 20% off the total.

If your schedule is unpredictable due to travel, work, or life, and/or if you’re joining the quarter after the third week, choose a flex pass to use in any class, anytime you’d like, within six months of purchase (Flex Passes not valid for Morning Mysore).

  • Ten class pass @$180 = $18/class

  • Six class pass @$120 = $20/class

  • Single class drop-in = $22/class

Unlimited yoga, auto-renewed monthly on your credit card. Attend any class, anytime, as often as you like. For those who are seeking to practice more than once per week, and who love lots of classes with many different teachers and styles. Cancel anytime you like, before the next billing cycle. Bliss Passes are not valid for Morning Mysore.

Weekly Class Registered Students: Please use discretion when requesting refunds or credits, as our teachers are compensated for your registration up front, and we offer a liberal make-up policy for missed classes. No refunds or credits are issued after the quarter has concluded; exceptions granted only for documented illness or injury. Refund and credit requests must be made via our online request form found here. We will handle your request as soon as we can, pending management approval.  Refunds for classes will incur a $20 administrative fee. Refunds may be made by check (may take up to three weeks to process) or online to your credit card (may take up to one week to process).  Studio credit will be applied to your online account, is valid for one year from the date issued and incurs no administrative fee.  Studio credit applies to classes and workshops only, and cannot be redeemed for cash, merchandise, or a future refund. We do not issue refunds or studio credits for fewer than three classes.  Flex Passes are good for six months from purchase; no refunds on Flex Passes; extensions granted only with management approval in cases of documented illness or injury.  Bliss Passes issued via monthly auto-renew to the student’s credit card through our secure online payment processing system; student’s credit card information is never stored in any Sun & Moon database; Bliss Pass is not tied to actual attendance and no retroactive refunds will be made; non-transferrable; cancel anytime with no fee (allow one week before next billing cycle); expired credit card yields a $10 administrative fee; initiating a monthly bliss pass acknowledges a reduced class schedule during major holiday periods; no partial months.

We offer free yoga in exchange for those interested in volunteering to work at the yoga studio. Contact the location (Arlington or Fairfax) where you’d like to volunteer.

Wear something comfy that’s not too loose and not too tight, and layer for temperature comfort. We practice barefoot and keep our floors clean; leave your shoes in the cubbies before entering the yoga rooms. Changing rooms are available. Avoid perfume/cologne or noisy jewelry. If you’re late to class, enter quietly and wait for centering to conclude before setting up props. Inform the teacher in advance if you need to leave early, and do not leave during final relaxation. Take your valuables into the room with you or secure them in your car. Cell phones should be silent and out of sight.  Sun & Moon provides mats and other yoga props free of charge, as well as cleaning supplies if necessary. Those who are concerned about the hygiene of props are encouraged to bring their own. Sun & Moon reserves the right to dismiss (with or without a refund) any student who disrupts the harmony of the class or studio.

Classes cancelled due to inclement weather or other emergency will not be re-scheduled. Registered students may make up missed classes in any other class during the quarter. During severe weather conditions or other emergencies, we will post all cancellations on the studio website and on the outgoing voicemail at 703.525.9642 up to one hour before the start time of the next class.

We have several classes designated for kids, teens, and families. If those classes don't fit the family schedule, sometimes parents may use discretion and bring them to our regular, adult classes. Older teens are usually fine to attend a regular, adult class. For older kids and younger teens, it depends on their attention span and level of interest. 75 or 90 minutes is a long time in a mindful setting for some kids, so they should only bring them if the kids are very motivated to attend and enjoy a quiet and focused environment. Younger kids are a distraction in a regular, adult class and we discourage parents from bringing them. Our monthly Family Yoga fun workshops are the better setting for younger kids and parents to do yoga together.

The easiest method for registering is by selecting a class on our schedule and then using our online registration system to sign up for your choice(s)
