Arthritis decreases range of motion, but yoga increases your range of motion. Yoga can also play an important role in reducing stress and tension that results from pain and disability, and help to increase positive feelings and well-being. Simple yoga exercise can relieve morning stiffness and joint pains, and may improve the flexibility of limbs and joints. Yoga can also strengthen the muscles surrounding the joints to protect and stabilize. When combined with a program of good medical care and communication with your doctor, yoga can provide important additional physical and psychological health benefits for arthritis patients.
