Barbara's Program at Sun & Moon

A Friday night practice – Barbara traditionally begins her weekend in Fairfax teaching the class she taught in Boston the week prior to her visit. This year is no exception; so look forward to a satisfying practice that reflects what Barbara is curious about and exploring in late September! 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

Saturday – The Body Aquatic: Our origin is the ocean. Even now, we humans are over 70% salt water, contained within a fluid network of connective tissue. This sea inside is our original nature and can inspire a fluid asana practice and instill poise as we navigate the world. Barbara will use pacing, breathing and evocative images to transport you into the deep currents within. Guided by the tidal rhythm of the breath, movement becomes fluid and meditative, traveling between deep undoing and active engagement with particular attention to the stabilizing locks known as the bandhas. 12:30pm - 4:30pm

Sunday – Cultivating Consciousness/ Unpacking The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: Yoga is known as a wisdom tradition. This means each practitioner chooses to personally engage with the body in asana, the mind in meditation, and behavior informed by global awareness. Barbara will blend meditation and asana practice to nurture active attention and the honing of the coarse mind. Barbara will also give a short intro to the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali and introduce several of the defining concepts at the heart of the practice of yoga. 12:30pm - 4:30pm
